Trial of Four

On April 24, 2014, the trial against four other Bolotnaya protesters on charges of mass rioting and violence against police started in Moscow’s Zamoskvoretskiy District Court. If convicted, three of them face up to thirteen years in prison. Defendants Ilya Guschin and Alexander Margolin have been in pretrial custody since their February 2013 arrest, and defendant Alexey Gaskarov has been behind bars since his April 2013 arrest. Fifty-seven-year-old Elena Kokhtareva is at liberty under her own recognizance not to leave Moscow. On February 11, 2014, Kokhtareva plead guilty as charged.

Dmitry Rukavishnikov, arrested in April 2013, was charged only with participation in mass riots in the same case as Gushchin, Margolin, Gaskarov, and Kokhtareva. He was amnestied on December 25, having spent approximately eight months in custody.
