Already sentenced

Eleven Bolotnaya rally participants have been sentenced on charges of participating in mass riots and violence against police.

On November 9, 2012, Maksim Luzianin was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, and on April 25, 2013 Konstantin Lebedev was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison on charges of organizing mass riots. On April 24, 2014, a court granted Lebedev parole, and he was released from custody on May 6, 2014.

On October 8, 2013, Mikhhail Kosenko received a sentence of indefinite compulsory psychiatric treatment on charges of participating in mass riots and using violence against a police officer. He appealed the verdict, but on March 25, 2014, Moscow City Court upheld it and the verdict came into force. On June 11, 2014, a court ruled to release him to be treated at home.

The trial against 12 Bolotnaya protesters started on June 6, 2013. Eight were charged with participating in mass riots and using violence against public officials. Three were charged with participation in mass riots. One was charged with calls for mass riots. All of the defendants, except one, spent more than a year-and-a-half behind bars. After four of the defendants (Vladimir Akimenkov, Leonid Kovyazin, Nikolay Kavkazskiy, and Maria Baranova) were amnestied on December 18, 2013, the “trial of twelve” became the “trial of eight.”

On February 21, 2014, the court found all eight defendants guilty as charged. On February 24, the judge handed down a suspended sentence of three years and three months to Alexandra Naumova (Dukhanina). The others received prison sentences ranging from two-and-a-half to four years (Andrey Barabanov - 3 years and 7 months, Yaroslav Belousov - 2.5 years (reduced on appeal to 2 years 3 months), Stepan Zimin - 3.5 years, Denis Lutskevich - 3.5 years, Alexey Polikhovich - 3.5 years, Artem Savelov - 3 years and 7 month, Sergey Krivov - 4 years, reduced on appeal to 3 years 9 months). All eight have appealed the verdict.
