Approximately 2,000 families were displaced and their homes destroyed to allow for construction of venues and infrastructure necessary for Russia to host the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi. The process of expropriation lacked transparency and not all of those evicted received fair compensation for their properties.
