Candy. That sweet, sensational stuff that brings a smile to every kid's face. Is it any wonder there's a month dedicated to it? June is National Candy Month. If it were up to us, we'd say that calls for candy every single day of June! (Of course, 5 out of 5 dentists may not agree!) While you imagine what 30 days straight of candy looks like, check out these unusual treats. Some of them may be just what your sweet tooth ordered. But others you might pass up — candy or not!

Lightning bug gummies

Lightning bugs — also known as fireflies — are small beetles that have the ability to glow at dusk.

So how do these bright bugs and candy go together? Three words: lightning bug gummies. This candy comes in the shape of fireflies. Besides looking like the bugs, this candy also lights up!

The sweets come with plastic tongs. When you pick up and squish a bug with the tongs, the gummy candy lights up. What a bright idea!

Salsagheti

This candy from Mexico is spicy and sweet. Called Salsagheti, it's made of watermelon-flavoured gummy strings. Now that sounds totally ordinary. But wait.

The candy comes with a flavour packet that you tear open and pour over the gummies. This packet contains a hot sauce that gives the candy an extra little kick! Hot watermelon, yum!

We can all agree that slathering gravy on a meal makes it taste especially good. But what would you think of candy that tastes like gravy?

It’s real, and it’s out there! For those who are willing to give gravy candy a try, may we suggest some other sweet options to go with it?

You can also find veggie candy that tastes like green beans, corn or carrots. Plus, you can buy tins of turkey-flavoured gum. Why not make a meal of it?

Wasabi Kit Kats

Chocolate bars are a favourite when you’re talking candy. This one from Japan has a little something extra.

Besides chocolate, the bar is flavoured with wasabi — a spicy condiment that's made from a green plant that's related to horseradish. It seems some people find the spice of the wasabi and sweetness of the chocolate a perfect combo. Mmmm?

Satellite Wafers

This candy is sometimes called Flying Saucers because each piece looks a bit like a UFO. The wafers are made with a thin, flavoured rice paper.

While that's tasty enough, there's a surprise inside the treat. Satellite Wafers contain candy beads or sour candy powder for double the candy fun! The wafers were first made in Belgium in the 1950s, but today they're a popular treat in England.
